Instinct, Shape and Surface

Jonathan Lawes is a contemporary artist and designer based in South East London. Working from his studio by the Thames, his practice is centred on silkscreen printing – a medium he uses to build bold, geometric abstractions shaped by instinct and colour. Originally trained in printed textiles, his compositions evolve directly on the printing table, guided by an internal ‘library’ of forms and a process that remains fluid and experimental.

Recently, Jonathan has expanded his practice into new surfaces – from canvas and wood to vintage book covers – exploring the texture and dimension these materials bring. His evolving body of work has led to solo exhibitions in the UK and creative partnerships spanning design, interiors and fashion.
